Athletics

We believe sports are an opportunity to develop
self-confidence, pride, team spirit, Christian values, cooperation,
and stamina. In order for a child to participate, all forms
must be completed and turned in. These forms help us insure
and protect the physical well being of your child.
Students may be suspended from play due to
behavioral and/or academic problems. The Rockford Area
Athletic Handbook as directed by Diocesan Guidelines states that:
"Each school will set up its own eligibility criteria." Our
guidelines have been established by the St. Peter Education
Commission and Approved by School and Parish Administration
The following guidelines have been
established:
- All participants must be enrolled students of
either St. Peter Cathedral School or the
Religious Education program.
- Students participating in extra-curricular
activities will be evaluated on a weekly basis for
academic eligibility. In order to participate in extra-curricular
activities at St. Peter
Cathedral School, students must maintain at least a 1.7 (or C-) grade
point average on a
4.0 scale in the following subjects: Religion, Reading, Math, English,
Social Studies,
Science, and Spelling, have no F's and not be at steps 3, 4, or 5 in the
discipline policy.
- Grade evaluation will take place every TWO
weeks on Mondays (or the first day of the
week following a school vacation). Students who are not fulfilling
the above requirements
for extra-curricular eligibility at the time of the grade evaluation will
have until that Friday
at 3:05 p.m. to rectify the situation. If the grade situation has
not been remedied by
this time, ineligibility will go into effect immediately. Students
will remain ineligible until at
least the next grade evaluation. Students who are ineligible for
THREE consecutive
weeks shall be deemed ineligible for the entire season (e.g., soccer
season) or event
(e.g. school play). Students SHALL be given a new period of
eligibility at the beginning of
a new sports season or event.
- Students who fail one or more classes
(Religion, Reading Language, Math, Science, or
Social Studies/History) for the quarter just completed will be ineligible
to participate in
extra-curricular activity for a minimum of two weeks into the next
quarter. If after two
weeks the student is passing all core classes, he/she will be allowed to
resume
participation. 5th, 6th, or 7th graders who fail one or more core
classes during the fourth
quarter of the current school year will be ineligible to participate in
extra-curricular
activities for the first two weeks of the following year.
- Public and home schooled students who
participate in extra-curricular activities at our
school are expected to meet the same standards as St. Peter Cathedral
students.
Additionally, they must be enrolled and successfully participating in the
parish CCD
program.
